Downy Woodpecker Vase
This vase depicts a Downy Woodpecker on a White Birch tree. The woodpecker design is done using a technique called Sgraffito. I paint a black slip on the outside of the vase while the clay is wet. I then carve the design into the slip revealing the white clay underneath and then add the red cap detail. The vase has a cream glaze inside and a glossy clear glaze outside.
Vases look lovely displaying spring bulbs but also just as pretty on their own livening up an empty shelf.
Each vase is hand-thrown, hand carved, and hand painted by me. Vases are dishwasher and microwave safe.
Vases are 5” tall and 11.5 inches at their widest point. They may vary slightly in size because each one is individually handmade.
